What would they know? – by Polka Dot Bride.

Creativity of any sort gets me excited and enthusiastic. The energy, the imagination and stickability through all the highs and lows of starting a business and maintaining it, is something to be admired. So it is with excitement that we introduce Carla of Made With Love – based on the Gold Coast. But not only has Carla created her own business making and designing beautiful wedding gowns,  her husband Josh is creating a menswear business Made With Class, in response to  queries from brides for the men in their lives to look equally smart and special on their wedding day. So a one stop shop if you will – clothes for both the bride and the groom in the one place – both with a sense of style and panache. Here’s the story of this dynamic duo.

A short while ago, you opened a new business – Made with Class – for the groom and groomsmen. What was the concept behind this business?

Well, it started (again) from brides joking that they wished we had a Made with Love for the men in their bridal parties. I would always laugh it off, but when I told my husband – aka best dressed winner of several events – he thought it was a great idea! It’s really exciting to work alongside Josh, and seeing him so passionate about materials and designs inspires me.

What do you offer the men?

Oh, everything that Josh can think of! Suits, custom-made suits, ties, bow ties, suspenders, even socks. If Josh could include the kitchen sink, he would only be too happy to!

Are the suits tailor made?

Absolutely. Josh can recommend suits based on body structure if the men need some help too. Some men find it a daunting experience to be responsible for their own suit but Made with Class makes it an easy and enjoyable experience.

Do you have a wide variety of fabrics – types and colours to choose from?

Yes. Well, we have the most stylish and practical! Together with the groom, Josh discusses elements such as climate, setting and budget, and what influence each factor should carry. We have merino wool, 100% wool, wool blends, cotton blends and linen. Regarding colours, we have a small collection so far, but we are including more and more colour. Josh has already picked out a maroon coloured suit for The State of Origin games, and I’ve spotted him working on some really striking sets that are sure to be trendsetters.

How long from the first consultation to the deliver of the suit should the groom allow?

We recommend between 4-6 months, beginning with an hour consultation with Josh. Suits are very complicated and we have to ensure they are a perfect fit so we wouldn’t want to have any less time than that.

Do you offer accessories for men?

Yes, of course. We have all sorts of ties, bow ties, pocket squares, pins, suspenders and socks too.

Working side by side with your husband: how do you decompress after a busy day and not talk about work after business hours?

Not very well! But we do try harder on date night to not talk about work; it’s just hard not to talk about it when it’s something that you love and spend most of your time doing. We endeavour to improve…

Your favourite honeymoon destination is

BORA BORA!            (Maybe if I say it enough, Josh will get the hint? :)

Every man needs a canvas suit

After months of tailor making fused canvas suits, we’re now introducing semi-canvassed and full-canvassed suits to our customers . We’re excited and know our customers will be too – here’s why:

canvas suit

Our popular fused suits are comfortable on the body and easy on the wallet. They are very popular and keep their shape with the aide of the fusible interlining glued to the fabric. Due to the glue used however, bubbles can sometimes form with over-cleaning on the front of the jacket. Big name brands and budget lines both produce fused suits – and so do we, albeit the classier tailored kind. They are perfect to make a statement at your next race day or sporting event.

Newly introduced are our semi-canvassed and full-canvassed suits. They are more prestigious and constructed more intricately, and only made by master tailors. Instead of glue and interlining fusing, they are made with horsehair canvas sewn into the suit that sits neatly between the wool and lining of your jacket. The canvas provides structure and distributes stress away from tension points, and adds statement to your lapels. In the full-canvas jacket, the canvas runs the vertical length of the front; in the semi-canvas jacket, the canvas runs from the shoulder to the waist of the front. The canvas ensures an excellent fit on the debut outing and looks better with use as it naturally adjusts to your body while maintaining structure.

Semi-canvassed suits are a perfect balance between excellent craftsmanship and affordability. Because of the skill of the tailor required, they are generally a better style and cut than a fused suit, but less costly than a full-canvas suit. Depending on your budget, you can opt for trendy or classic looks.

Full-canvassed suits are lifetime buys. Even though cheaper options have improved over the years, the full-canvas suit fit is unparalleled in the short and long-term. As such, we recommend a classic look rather than bold or trendy choices.

In the history of suit-making, no one has been known to regret a canvas suit.

We’re all about dashing specimens in tailored suits – intricate, hidden elements that become apparent at just the right time. In this styled shoot for Made With Love Bridal’s newest addition to the family – their brother company Made With ClassDream Destination Weddings capture the contours and seamless fits of the designs, evoking a real sense of suave style. There’s a fresh, crisp feel to these garments for both the groom and bride, the rich, deep colours of the suits reflecting the richness of the lace details in the gowns. Subtle details like the contrasting threads in the buttons of the shirts give new life to the idea of groom’s fashion, and we’re loving that the custom designs are making real headway, with the focus shifting from perfecting just the bride’s outfit to ensuring our man also comes up nicely.

What you should know about suits.

What you should know about suits:

Do your research, so that your purchase is an educated decision. Some men will live their entire life without owning a tailor made suit. This seems unfair, because a well fitted suit is the one of men’s few luxuries a man gets to experience in their lifetime and is something all men should be able to experience.

Back in the day, a suit was exclusively made from natural fabrics, such as linen, cotton and wool. However in the modern era suits can also be blended with synthetic (man-made) fabrics because of it’s low maintenance and affordable cost.

Polyester is probably the most common synthetic material used in blends to make suits. The reason for this is because it’s strong, shrink resistant and unlikely to stretch, less likely to wrinkle and easy to clean. Unfortunately the synthetic fabrics can’t compare to the natural fabrics when it comes to breathability.

Blending can be done with either natural or manufactured fibers, in a variety of combinations and percentages. In the modern era, polyester is the most blended manufactured fiber because of it’s above mentioned characteristics. We have a couple of wool/polyester blends available for our customers.

What does Super 100’s, 120’s, 150’s mean:

In laymen’s terms, this means thread count. The higher the number the finer the fabric. You will notice that the higher the super number the higher the price tag of the suit. The reason for this is because the higher spun wool is more expensive to produce as it requires more fibers.

About the Lining:

Suit lining is often something our customers don’t think about. Out of sight, out of mind. You don’t usually see the type of lining a person’s suit has, but you can certainly feel it. The lining may seem like an insignificant component of a suit, however it can make or break the quality of a suit. The lining will increase the person’s comfort and will enable the garment to breathe by providing a moisture moving layer. The lining will also allow the garment to move with the body. Lining will also help dictate the way the suit drapes on the wearers body. Don’t forget that lining isn’t just to hide the construction of your suit, but altering your lining can improve luxury and style not to mention protect the outer shell of your suit by creating a barrier between friction and perspiration.

Suit Maintenance:

Make sure that you hang your suit properly in the closet to let the wrinkles fall out. We include a wide shoulder coat hanger with our personalised garment bag with every purchase. This helps preserve the shape and quality of your suit. If you need to, use a soft brush to rid your suit of dust and fluff. Have your suits professionally dry-cleaned, especially if you have a nasty spill at an event, or use your suit on a regular basis. You can wear a suit several times over a period of time without sending it to the cleaners. When you do dry-clean, always take the entire suit, otherwise the suit’s color could start to get mismatched.

In memory of Ronald Close

In the early hours of Sunday, 15th of March 2015 my wife and I received some saddening news. Carla’s ‘Popsie’ had passed away. The end of a lifetime for a wonderful husband, a caring father and a beloved Popsie.  Ronald was an amazing person and made me personally feel like I needed to be a better man every time I left his presence.

In that later months of his life, Ronald struggled speak let alone move. However this didn’t stop him from being a respectful gentleman to those around him.  Despite Popsie’s difficulty to move, he would insist on standing to greet a lady or carry their bags even though they were more capable than he was. When Popsie first entered palliative care he moved slowly around the home  introducing himself to everyone he laid eyes on with the most stern handshake he could muster. Popsie was proof that chivalry still exists, and I for one have never met such a gentlemen.

There were three qualities in Popsie that always made me smile. 1) Popsie loved to eat his chippies before the family meal, this reminded me so much of my wife. 2) No matter how he felt, or what his circumstance Popsie would never complain. Ever! From this day forth whenever I hear the words “I’m fine thank you” I will always be reminded of Popsie. 3) The love he had for his wife Kath. A few weeks prior to Popsie’s passing Carla and I transported Gran to see him, and to sneak him in his favorite meal. When we entered his room he looked straight through me and Carla as it seemed he only had eyes for Granny. With eyes widened with glee and a smile beaming with love, you could tell that the two were the definition of soul mates. After our visit Popsie turned to me and Carla and said, “thank you for bringing my angel”. I was brought to tears watching Gran and Pops try to kiss each-other goodbye. With all his remaining strength Popsie was able to lean over close enough to receive a kiss on the forehead from Gran. “Good-bye my precious… good-bye my angel”, said repeatedly until their hands eventually separated.

Gran spent the last two weeks sleeping next to Popsie whilst he was in care. She insisted that she be next to him as he took his last breath, and that’s exactly how it happened. I told Gran that there was some comfort to be found in the fact that Popsie passed away with his true love by his side. Granny just smiled and said she wouldn’t have it any other way. I have such admiration for Gran and her ability to have stayed so strong throughout this entire ordeal. We’ve lost such a great man, but aren’t we lucky to have had Ronald in our lives.

To our Popsie

To our dearest Ronald, a humbling man you’ve been.

You’ve been the finest gentleman, to that I’ve ever seen.

I will miss you very much, just like all the rest.

We’ll miss you around the dinner table because you were simply just the best!

From your first grandson Grantie, to your darling Brittney Bate.

We were all barracking for you in your fight against ‘the fate’.

I’m sure your biggest worry was how your Kath would cope once you leave.

We all know you’ll be watching over her, giving her comfort as she grieves.

Don’t worry Popsie, we’re here for Granny. So in these words I’ll make a toast.

Just like your surname, we will always keep her Close.

Rest in Peace Ronald

J+C xx

We made a decision prior to Popsie’s death that we would name our finest suit after him. If you wish to view the ‘Ronald’ tuxedo click here.
